COSPLAY TUTORIAL

Flower Finish
One of our headdresses has a beautiful arrangement of synthetic leather flowers. You can finish off the back of the flowers with satin for a beautiful finished look. After cutting your flower pieces from the synthetic leather, lay them on a remnant of satin and cut out the pieces you need.  Use fusible interfacing to join the synthetic leather to the satin.

If you’re short on time and don’t want to make all the flowers, we suggest using purchased flowers that you embellish with jewels, rhinestones, and beads.

Not-So-Heavy Metal
We’ve used metallic synthetic leather for metal-looking accents on our headdresses. This may be tough to find, but don’t despair. You can use nail polish to achieve a similar metal look on some of the headdress details.  After you’ve completed sewing all the pieces, select the areas you would like to have metallic detailing. Protect the surrounding areas that are not going to be painted by applying blue painter’s tape. If your base synthetic leather is very shiny, you may want to first lightly sandpaper the surface. Choose a metallic nail polish and start adding a thin coat. Let that dry and continue until you achieve a nice even color. To make it really shine, finish off with a topcoat of clear nail polish.

You can also use acrylic paint or actual leather paint on your synthetic leather. Just remember to protect the surrounding area with painter’s tape.
